At our first FL blogger meeting, Jill and I were talking as we were shopping and were discussing Jennifer Ashley's newest release because we both had it. Then she asked if I had read this book, I hadn't. She told me it was one of her favorites from 2009 so I had to go find it. My library had it so I grabbed it. I read it in one day. I am not a big historical reader as I prefer contemporaries and paranormals. I am very glad that I picked this up.
Lord Ian is a unique hero, and I loved that. For me he made the book. I loved his cluelessness. He was basically a historical nerd. He has an eidetic memory which means that he remembers everything he sees and hears. (Like Dr. Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds)
The story starts with Beth Ackerly being engaged to a nasty man named Mather. Ian warns her about Mather's predilictions and then proposes to her. Beth refuses but also breaks things off with Mather.
Beth is a strong heroine. She was raised in the slums but met a nice lady who hired her and then left Beth her wealthy estate when she died. She is an interesting blend of strength and naivete. Because of that naivete and optimism she does have one or two TSTL moments but I still liked her.
Ian, because of his memory, lack of social understanding and a couple of other things was put into an asylum when he was a child. His brother got him released years later after their father's death. But he is still labeled by most as "mad" because of his mannerisms and difficulty focusing on what is going on. I loved his character. It was such a nice change from the usual rakish characters in historicals.

I got this book from a friend who was doing a house
party or something like that. In the program they
gave her like 12 copies of the book and she is
supposed to give them out to friends and then meet
supposed to give them out to friends and then meet
later with everyone to discuss it. I guess it is kind of
like a book club, but they give you the book.
Well, it is a big book and it took a little while for me to
get into it because it is not a romance and I very rarely
get into it because it is not a romance and I very rarely
read books that have not romantic element in them.
But yesterday and today I was hooked. I started
reading during my lunch time today and could not
stop. It was the end of the book and I could not put
stop. It was the end of the book and I could not put
it down and I just kept crying and reading.
The book was very well written. I loved how she moved
time in the story because the book spanned about 30
years so time was advanced by Tully's hairstyle,
clothes and what she reported on that year. So it was
cool to reminisce as I read. I do not remember
everything they mentioned but I remembered a lot of it.
This book was a great friendship book. And very
emotional as well. It was kind of like reading a very
intensive Beaches. Of which I have never read that
book but loved the movie. I say intensive because you
become a lot closer reading about the characters
and hearing their thoughts and emotions than when
you watch a movie. Which is one reason why I love
reading.
But great read. I give it an A.

I grabbed this book from my library because I liked the cover. Than I read the cover quote by Nalini Singh and the back of the book and took it home. I really enjoyed it. It was a interesting new world. New spin on the vampire lure, I would say similar to Lynsay Sands' series, but still different. Great start to a series and I look forward to reading the next book.
Antoinette was a great strong character, she was a kick-butt huntress with a quick mind and sarcastic mouth. Christian is a strong, sexy hunter who has gone through a lot in the time that he has lived and is determined not to get his heart broken again.
I believe this is her first book and i definitely look forward to reading more by her.
Well this was a decent read for reading. Some great books came out this year and for me this was the year for re-reads. Thanks to Nath for her Re-read Challenge and to my lack of finances that do not allow me to get new books. I had 52 re-reads this year.

I re-read a few books this month. I decided to write about two books on my keeper shelves that I re-read this month. The first two books in the Rarities trilogy. They were both as great as I remembered. They get alot of mixed reviews because they are very heavy on details and the art side of things. I love that though, humanities was my favorite subject in college so I loved all the history technical stuff. the romance is good but in this series the story is more and the romance is more of a sideline.
The troubling message from Serena Charters's late grandmother appears in a package containing four pages of a centuries-old illuminated manuscript -- a strange inheritance that hides many secrets...and has already cost many lives. Seeking answers, Serena turns to Erik North of Rarities Unlimited, a reclusive manuscript appraiser with a passion for the past. This was my first ever romantic suspense book. I was a late bloomer for romance reading. This is not the first time I have re-read it but I still enjoyed it. It is not as HOT as some of the books I read now, but it has a great storyline. I love books that deal with the art/antiquities world. I will definitely be keeping on my shelf.

I think I like the first book more than this one, but i still enjoyed this one. If you did not like the first book then you probably will not like this one. It was same style of story and writing just different characters that you meet in the first book.

So he enlists Gabriel to make the long haul to the middle of nowhere, and make sure Lolly Helton is safe and sound. It’s a trip the younger McQueen would rather not make given the bitter winter weather–and the icy conditions that have always existed between him and Lolly.
But there’s no talking back when your dad is the town’s top cop. And there’ s no turning back when night falls just as Gabriel arrives–and discovers that the weather outside isn’t the only thing that’s frightful. Spotting strangers in Lolly’ s home–one of them packing a weapon–is all it takes to kick Gabriel into combat mode. And his stealth training is all he needs to extract Lolly from the house without alerting her captors. But when the escape is discovered, the heat–and the hunt–are on. And the winter woods are nowhere to be once the ice storm touches down, dropping trees, blocking roads, and trapping the fleeing pair in the freezing dark.
This is the one I have read already. I was not that great. It was an okay short story but definitely would not pay hardback prices for it. I would recommend getting a library copy of this and waiting for paperback, if that. There was nothing that was horrible about it but it was very blah and same old, same old. I would give it a 2.5 out of 5.

Very fun book. Won it from LibraryThing as an ARC, it comes out in February 2010. It is the start of a new series about a misfit in a line of matchmakers. Since this is the start of the series, the romance aspect is still developing fully. But we did meet the hero, Sean, and they make an interesting team. She has a vision of a dead body and solicits Sean's help in finding it, though does not give him any details. No one is supposed to know about her psychic abilities and she ends up outting herself while she is trying to help some people. The ending was great and I look forward to reading the next in the series.
Great light-hearted paranormal, I give it an A-.
