Mermaid's Kiss

12/29/2008 03:45:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (4)

Mermaid's Kiss by Joey W. Hill
The angelic Jonah has been battling the Dark Ones for centuries. But his noble spirit has begun to tire with the weight of war—allowing a Dark One to strike a blow that severs his wings and knocks him into the sea.
Anna is a Daughter of Arianne—a direct descendant of the mermaid of legend. Anna’s longing for love compels her to risk her very life to protect and hide the fallen Jonah. And the longer Jonah delays his return to the heavens, the more Anna’s secret passions are tempted.
But as she falls more in love with him, Anna wonders if she’s destined to lose her heart and her dreams to save Jonah’s soul…

I won a copy of this book and was very excited. It was a different paranormal than your typical werewolf/vampire/cat-shifter book. This one had a mermaid for a heroine and an angel for a hero. It made me think of a line I heard once in a movie (I looked it up and it was Ever After) "A bird may love a fish, but where would they live?". Well since this is fiction it was a lot easier to answer that question, make her be able to shift to human.
This was a difficult book to label, it was not really "cute" but it was not dark either. It was a quest for these two soulmates to help him regain his sense of self and goodness.
The ending was great, very tough, but you still get an HEA.
Pretty hot book. Though it bugged me a little at the beginning how much she emphasized how small Anne was in comparison to Jonah. It made me picture this like 5 foot teenager with this 6'5 man, and that was just a little icky. But then I was finally able to adjust it in my head when they stopped emphasizing it.
I loved the heroine's basis in the legend of the Little Mermaid. I love stories based on fairy tales or legends.
The story was good. I am going to reread it at a later date to re-evaluate whether I like it more or less. I am interested to see if there will be other stories set in this world.

Magical Christmas Cat

12/24/2008 05:16:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (0)

Merry Christmas everyone!!! I hope that everyone has a great holiday.

A good friend sent me a Amazon gift card so I got to go book shopping!! I bought:

Love Under Seige by Samantha Kane
Broken Wing by Judith James
Sons of Amber by Bianca D'Arc
Surrender
by Kimberly Zant
Their One and Only by Trista Ann Michaels

I thought this book was an appropriate post for today, it is the only holiday book I read this year.

The Magical Christmas Cat (anthology with Psy/Changeling and Breed stories) by Lora Leigh, Nalini Singh, Erin McCarty, and Linda Winstead Jones

STROKE OF ENTICEMENT by Nalini Singh
Meeting and relationship between Leopard Changeling, Zach, and human, Annie. Annie is the schoolteacher in the area that teachers most of the Changeling children for the pack. Annie has a slight disability walking but she does not let it get her down. Zach is so sweet and patient. I loved this story.
CHRISTMAS BREE by Erin McCarthy
Honestly did not read this one.
SWEET DREAMS by Linda Winstead Jones
Very different. Unknown to Ruby she is slated to be the next virgin sacrifice to a nasty demon. She is plagued by a small figurine of a cat that she cannot get rid of no matter how hard she tries. Zane is her coworker and neighbor that seems to know more about it than he should. Is he a good guy or bad. Interesting story, alot of story packed into a little bit of space, very fast paced.
CHRISTMAS HEAT by Lora Leigh
A new Breed story!!! Hayley is the human librarian for the town near Sanctuary. She is also the only witness of the conspiracy from the last book (Mercury's War). So now someone is trying to kill her. Noble has been waiting for her for a year before this happens and when her life is in danger all bets are off of him waiting any longer. Hayley is so sweet, she loves Christmas and wants to share that with everyone around her. The Breeds do not really celebrate it, but she is determined to spread a little cheer this holiday. Great story :)

Sweeter than Wine

12/10/2008 05:46:00 AM / Posted by Kris / comments (4)

Hello all. Things are still going here. Hubby is enjoying staying home with the kids, so far anyway. they baked cookies yesterday. They turned out well. I am so glad that he can cook. One of the reasons I married him. I cannot cook. I can make dinner, but I cannot cook. He made a great dinner the other night. We had BBQ chicken, cut up potatoes that he had covered in olive oil and rosemary and baked, and buttered corn for our veggie. Yummy!

Sweeter Than Wine by Bianca D'Arc
An abused woman has the power to unite werefolk, fey and vampire against an evil that would see them all dead if she can learn to love again. Christy lies near death after a brutal beating by her estranged husband. Her preternatural friends reach a desperate conclusion: The only way to save her is to turn her. Sebastian steps forward to take on the burden of being her Maker. For him its no burden at all. She draws him as no other woman has for centuries. With the help of a werecougar friend, Sebastian teaches Christy about her new life and abilities, making certain she is as strong as he can make her. Only then can she face her abusive ex-husband and put her old life behind her. But Christy's ex-husband is involved in something more dangerous than any of them had guessed. Vampire, were, and even a fey knight must work together to put an end to the threatening evil. To overcome her past, help keep the darkness at bay, and fight for a new life with Sebastian, Christy must draw on all of her new-found strength. Will it be enough?

This book comes after Lords of the Were. The storyline was good. I would have liked to see a little more with the ex-husband. The story moved well and did not leave me bored at any point. Though there are menage scenes, this is not a menage book. The love scenes were very hot.
If you liked Lords of the Were then you will like this one as well.

Instant Attraction

12/07/2008 02:24:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (4)

Well, tomorrow (Monday) Hubby starts staying home with the little ones. He was not making enough with what he was doing to justify daycare, too expensive. So he said that he would stay home and take care of them and try to do some web design work to make some cash to balance things out. He also is promising to do some of the things around the house that he has not had time to do (i.e. put the extra shelf up on the IKEA bookshelves we have had for a while now). I am very excited about that.
If you pray, please keep my father in your prayers he was laid off from his job this week. He works construction and had been with the company for over 20 years but he has recently had some health issues and with the economy, he got cut. But he still has to work and cannot exactly go run out to get another construction job with his health and age.

The girls are all growing like weeds. Baby is getting huge (3 weeks ago she was 16.5 lbs) and has the sweetest disposition. The other two hover so much. Every time she makes a sound they rush to her side, it is very cute, (and occasionally annoying especially when she is sleeping and they wake her up in their enthusiasm.
I hope that everyone is staying sane during the holidays.

Instant Attraction by Jill Shalvis

Accountant Katie Kramer is a quintessential good girl—working hard, recycling diligently, all the while trying to ignore the feeling that she doesn’t fit in anywhere. That’s all she wants. Well, that—and amazing sex, and the kind of daredevil escapade she can look back on when she’s crunching numbers in a dusty cubicle. Which explains why she just took a job in Wishful, California, working for Wilder Adventures and Expeditions. Waking up to find a magnificently built stranger towering over her bed—that part defies explanation…

After wandering the planet for months following a life-changing accident, Cameron Wilder has come back to the only home he knows. Under other circumstances, he might be thrilled to find a gorgeous woman sleeping in his cabin, but now, while he’ll risk his body taking clients on adrenaline-drenched excursions, his heart is off limits. Still, Katie’s killer smile triggers something deep in his gut…among other places. Showing her how exhilarating it can be to stop balancing her life as if it was a checkbook is the biggest rush he’s ever felt—and an adventure Katie’s wishing would never end...

I was sooooo excited to get an advanced copy of this book, I love her stuff. This was a great book. Funny and sexy is how I label Ms Shalvis's books, they are all great. If you enjoyed her previous trilogy then you will love these as well.
Katie takes a job that deals with adventure, specifically to try to get herself out of a boring rut that is her life. She has survived a traumatic experience that makes her want to live her life to the fullest. Cameron went from the other extreme to where she was, it was like they switched places. He lived his life hard everyday and then had an accident and has not been living it since. He returns to his family's wilderness adventure business after a year of pouting and moping around after his accident. Katie is there as a temp accountant. She took the job hoping to get up the nerve to participate in some of the adventures. Her heart and exuberance begin to inspire him to start living his again.
This book releases January 27 and you can pre-order now it at Amazon here.

Master

12/01/2008 12:44:00 AM / Posted by Kris / comments (3)

Master (An Erotic Novel of the Count of Monte Cristo) by Colette Gale
Edmond Dantes spent years imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. Now free, he has returned to Paris in the guise of the powerful Count of Monte Cristo seeking vengeance on those who sent him to jail. But his plan also includes a different kind of revenge on the woman he has never forgotten, the lover he has made it his mission to possess.

Mercedes Herrera was devastated when the man she loved disappeared. Trapped in a loveless marriage, her passions are reignited by Edmond's return. She alone sees through his disguise...but this harsh, angry man sends chills down her spine even as his very touch reminds her of the passion they once shared. She realizes soon enough that his plan to avenge himself on the men who incarcerated him also includes another sort of revenge...on her.

From the seaside town of Marseille, to the exotic caves of Monte Cristo Isle, unfolds an erotic battle of wills in the most electrifying game of love ever played between man and woman, between master and slave.

Great erotic romance. I have not read the original story nor have I seen the movie, but I definitely want to now. I very much enjoyed this book. And I am not a huge reader of historicals. But I really liked this one. If you are squeamish at all or are not used to erotic books you might was to think about it first. There is some voyeurism and ff (not the heroine) in the story. The storyline was excellent, though I wanted to hit the hero occasionally, it was all in love. The characters were easy to follow and empathize with.

Can't wait for her next book. Ms Gale is doing an erotic retelling of my favorite characters, Robin Hood. It is called Bound by Honor and come out May of 2009, can't wait!!!!

Mercury's War and Happy Thanksgiving

11/26/2008 01:24:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (1)

Well, still swollen and can't talk well, Thanksgiving will be interesting. I hope that everyone has a great holiday and remembers the reason for holiday, to be thankful for what we have been given. I am thankful for so many things and thank God everyday for all He has given me.

Thank you to all my blog friends out there for listening to my rants and supporting me through my pregnancy and excellent book recommendations. Have a great holiday. Remember on holidays there are no calories :)

I took a trip to my ubs and got a few books:
Master by Colette Gale (Erotic retelling of the Count of Monte Cristo - excellent book)
The Art of Desire by Cherie Feather
Nauti Dreams by Lora Leigh
Veiled Truth by Vivi Anna (Nocturne that was very good)

Mercury's War (Breeds Book 16) by Lora Leigh

Someone has been slipping the Sanctuary’s secure information to a pharmaceutical company. Now it’s up to Ria Rodriguez to pose as a clerk and uncover the leak. Yet she has no idea of the danger she’s about to encounter—or the passion she’s about to ignite in one of the greatest Breeds ever created.

This is one of my new favorites in this series. The heat between Mercury and Ria was, wow. I love the storyline and how they got together. I loved that it was not the typical mating heat like in the other books. There was a lot to love about this book.
Mercury was created specifically to have more feline DNA than the other Breeds so he looks more feline than the other Breeds. When he was in the labs he found his mate and then lost her when she was killed on a mission. So he is faced with the knowledge that his mate is gone and he will be alone. So when he meets Ria and the sparks fly, it is just lust right? Mother Nature has other ideas.
Like I said the storyline was awesome, it kept me guessing and kept me very engrossed. I am anxious to see what will happen with Ely and still haven't decided whether to like Jonas or hate him. We will see. Can't wait for the next book, Coyote's Mate.

Salvation in Death

11/24/2008 07:29:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (0)

Well I am home for the week because of Thanksgiving which is good because my throat is killing me and I cannot talk. Went to the doctor but they said it was not strep and likely due to my allergies, so I am to take three Advil and suffer until it goes away. :( I am not happy. As long as it goes away by Thursday so I can eat comfortably :P That is the important thing.

Update: forgot to mention that I had a review for Bond of Darkness by Diane Whiteside up last week at Book Binge, if interested go here.

Salvation in Death (In Death series Book ?? I have lost track) by JD Robb
In the year 2060, sophisticated investigative tools can help catch a killer. But there are some questions even the most advanced technologies cannot answer.

Her latest thriller sets a new standard for suspense, as the priest at a Catholic funeral mass brings the chalice to his lips—and falls over dead. When Detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas confirms that the consecrated wine contained potassium cyanide, she’s determined to solve the murder of Father Miguel Flores, despite her discomfort with her surroundings. It’s not the bodegas and pawnshops of East Harlem that bother her, though the neighborhood is a long way from the stone mansion she shares with her billionaire husband, Roarke. It’s all that holiness flying around at St. Christobal’s that makes her uneasy. A search of the victim’s sparsely furnished room reveals little— except for a carefully hidden religious medal with a mysterious inscription, and a couple of underlined Bible passages. The autopsy reveals more: faint scars of knife wounds, a removed tattoo—and evidence of plastic surgery, suggesting that “Father Flores” may not have been the man his parishioners had thought. Now, as Eve pieces together clues that hint at gang connections and a deeply personal act of revenge, she believes she’s making progress on the case. Until a second murder—in front of an even larger crowd of worshippers—knocks the whole investigation sideways. And Eve is left to figure out who committed these unholy acts—and why.

Another good addition to the series. Not my favorite in the series but a good addition. I wanted more action outside of the case. I missed seeing all the other people in this world. She had one phone conversation with Mavis and that was all we got of her and did not see Charles and Louise at all. It was mainly the case for this book. The case was very good so I still enjoyed the book, just not as much as some of the others.

Be With Me and Tequila Truth

11/22/2008 07:10:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (4)

Well, I am having a two-fer menage day. Two very good friends-to-lovers menage books.

Be With Me by Maya Banks
She has a killer on her tail and three men in her bed… Hutch, Cam, and Sawyer were juvenile delinquents when they formed a friendship with the wealthy but lonely Regina. She felt loved for the first time in her life—by all three. Today she’s a police officer and wary of resuming her relationship with the hot trio—until an attempt is made on her life. When they jump in to protect her, an all-new bond is formed, one riskier than ever before because now a killer looms in the shadows.

This was an awesome book. Many times in menage books the problem is that the characters actually making the relationship work in the long run is not addressed well. Reality does not always step in. In this one, they address it very well, they reveal the issues they are having and the need to deal with them. There was great character development and emotion in this story. The suspense was also very good, it kept me guessing and kept moving.
If you liked Colter's Woman by Ms Banks, you will love this book.

If grading I would definitely give this an A.

Cover Image of Tequila Truth eBooks, by Mari CarrTequila Truth by Mari Carr

One's the loneliest number. Two's company. Three's a fantasy come true.

The rules of Tequila Truth are quite simple. Shots are poured, a question asked, and only absolute truth can be the answer. Kylie Halston has been playing the game with her roommates, Colt and Heath, since their freshmen year of college. On his twenty-fifth birthday, Heath poses a question: "What is your ultimate sex fantasy?"

While Colt and Heath's fantasies are too hot for words, it's Kylie's sex dream that hits a little too close to home for all of them. Her wish? For a ménage a trois with two men, complete with bondage and a bit of spanking for good measure. Colt and Heath are only too willing to make Kylie's fantasies come true and they make a proposal-one no-holds-barred, sexed-up weekend where nothing is off the menu. The only question is, come Monday, will their platonic relationship survive the passion?

This was a little lighter than the other book, but still very good. The storyline was very good. They are three friends that have lived together since college and have always been platonic. But Kylie has a bad experience while experimenting with a boyfriend who took things too far and her roommates know that they are a better choice for her "experimenting". So they agree to a single weekend to fulfill all fantasies. As the weekend progresses they realize that none of them want to go back to the way things were.
I had fun with this book. It was a short sexy read (about 100 pages). Amazon does not list it at the moment, but you can get it at Samhain or I got it at Books on Board.

Jaci's Experiment and Destiny

11/14/2008 10:01:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (2)

Well, today is my b-day. Had a nice day. Hubby took me (and the littles) out for pizza. Had a good day at school and my mom is taking me shopping tomorrow. I am doing well :) Especially if she takes me to Borders, then I will be ecstatic. I am going to spend time with Hubby and then go to sleep. Have great night everyone :)

  • Jaci's Experiment Jaci's Experiment (Resonance Mates Book 3) by Bianca D'Arc
As a young Alvian lab tech, Jaci knows her place in the orderly, emotionless society her race has established on the planet Earth. While preparing a batch of experimental skin patches, she is accidentally exposed to a gene-altering agent. In a matter of days, she’s assaulted with raw, primitive, forbidden emotions she has no clue how to handle. If her superiors find out, she’s a dead woman.
Her only hope is to seek help from the human test subjects held captive in pens below the city.

Before the aliens came, cousins Mike and Dave used their psychic abilities to their advantage in business dealings. Now they use them to stay alive, keeping a sharp telepathic eye out for ways to help themselves and others improve their lot... or escape. Their friendship with Jaci has always been more than simply captives and caretaker. Now that her DNA has changed, their shared resonance is the stuff of legend.

Inevitably, Jaci’s emotions expose her to deadly Alvian justice. Suddenly she’s in the race of her life, seeking the only safety she’s ever known... in the arms of her human Resonance Mates

I am loving this series (Hara's Legacy, Davin's Quest and this one). Her books are sweet and very hot. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. This was a great addition to the series and probably my favorite so far. There was alot more storyline to it than in the others IMO. It helps to read the others before this one because the characters are reoccurring.

Destiny (Rogue Angel Book 1) by Alex Archer
An ancient order tied to the Vatican... A blood fortune buried in the caves of France... A conspiracy of power, greed and darkest evil... Archaeologist and explorer Annja Creed's fascination with the myths and mysteries of the past leads her to a crypt in the caves of France, where the terrifying legend of the Beast of Gevaudan hints at the unimaginable. What she discovers is shattering: an artifact that will seal her destiny; a brotherhood of monks willing to murder to protect their secret; and a powerful black-market occultist desperate to put his own claim to centuries-old blood money. Annja embarks on a high-tension race across Europe and history itself, intent on linking the unholy treachery of the ages with the staggering revelations of the present. But she must survive the shadow figures determined to silence her threat to their existence.

This book was interesting. I had heard good things about it but never got around to trying it. She is basically a female Indiana Jones. She travels around the world trying to prove/disprove legends and other historically fascinating things. I thought that it was a fun book, lots of action and a great heroine. I read someone describing this book as having a multi-layered plot and that is a great description for it. I was trying to tell Hubby about the plot line and had a hard time telling it coherently because it was so complex to explain in a quick synopsis with out it sounding hokey.
I did not realize until I started looking at the series more, how many books there already are in the series. There are 12 out so far. Did not realize that when i decided to try this series. Don't know if I have the will to start another series. It was a good story but I am not sure if I will continue the series.

Lightning Reviews and life

11/08/2008 08:52:00 AM / Posted by Kris / comments (8)

Well, sorry for being MIA :( My only excuse is life. Between work and family and soccer and baby I have not been a good blogger. I have been hanging around some but have not been posting. I am reading, just not as much as usual. :( But to make up for it I am posting some pics and a bunch of reviews.

This is my littlest cutie. She is doing well. She went to the doctor this week and is 16.4 lbs (4 months old now). She also got four shots, she did very well. She is starting cereal and is not quite sure what to make of it. The instant gratification of the bottle just is not there for her with a spoon.

This was taken on Halloween, she was a cat. Her little onsie has a tail and her hat has cat ears, it was cute.

These are my other two cuties on Halloween, I do not think I have posted picks of them before. Oldest was Snow White and Middle was a Butterfly Princess.

Then this is Hubby and Middle (Middle is eating Doritos if you are wondering about the orange mouth).

I also have two reviews up over at Book Binge. The first is for

Hard to Get by Alyssa Brooks and the second is for Point of Distraction:The First Collection by Cindy Jacks.

Have you Seen Her? by Karen Rose
Special Agent Steven Thatcher has a lot on his hands. Not only is there a serial killer on the loose, stalking area high schools, but Steven s teenage son Brad is suddenly acting up and failing in school. His schoolteacher, Jenna Marshall, is also worried about Brad. As their conversations about the troubled teen increase and grow more intimate, Jenna and Steven soon find they re falling for each other, though they tread cautiously as both carry hidden wounds of their own. Their situation turns even more dangerous when Jenna finds herself on the twisted path of the serial killer Steven is investigating.

I am really loving her books. Great suspense, great storyline, great chemistry, great overall book. Steven Thatcher is a very stressed out man. He is a agent trying to find a serial killer, his children are having issues and he finally finds a girl he is interested in and she is getting harassed at the school where she teaches. He dealt with it all a lot better than I would have. This storyline kept me interested and guessing. The chemistry between them was very good. I guess my only issue would have been my frustration with Steven's trust issues. Semi-understandable but still frustrating. But it makes for a better storyline i guess. I wish we could have seen more of the relationship between Jenna and the kids, and more of the kids in general. Just my preferences. Other than that, great book.

Into the Mist (Falcon Mercenary Group Book 1) by Maya Banks
One woman's mission to bring down a sexy elemental shifter turns into a battle of wills...and hearts. Hostage recovery specialist Eli Chance has a secret. He was born a shifter. A freak of nature. While on a mission, Eli's men and their mercenary guide are exposed to a powerful chemical agent, and suddenly his secret has become easier to hide. Now he's not the only one with the gift. But for his men, this "gift" is becoming more and more of a curse. Tyana Berezovsky's brother Damiano was the guide for Eli's team and was the worst affected by the chemical. As he grows increasingly unstable, Tyana fears she's going to lose him to the beast he is becoming. Tyana will do whatever it takes to help him, even if it means using her body to go after the one man she thinks holds all the blame--and possibly the cure.

This was a fun action paranormal. The storyline was interesting and the characters were intriguing. Tyana was a kick butt heroine and i love those. It cracked me up when she bested Eli and had him flat on his back. I am very interested in reading the next book, Into the Lair, about the brothers. I liked the world and group that she has created with this new series.

Click for excerpt! The Boys Back Home by Sierra Dafoe
She could never choose between them-until they both chose her.

Even as a young girl, Cassie Jordan knew the rules: one man, one woman. Especially in rural Idaho. But how can she choose between blond, kind-hearted Kyle Watson and dark, sensuous Alan Caine? She can't. Not even when she discovers the two handsome cowboys in bed together and is convinced that neither of them cares for her at all. That discovery sends her running all the way to Chicago and into the arms of another man. Now, with her wedding fast approaching, it's time to return to Preacher's Bend to sort out her tangled emotions. Now that Cassie's back in town, Kyle and Alan are determined to do whatever it takes to keep her there. As far as they're concerned, there-s only one place on earth Cassie belongs-in their arms.

A very good short, erotic romance. Cassie left town three years ago because she could not pick between her two best friends. Now she returns to tie up some loose ends before she gets married to someone else. It does not go exactly as planned. There was a lot of emotional turmoil between the three of them. It was interesting to watch it unfold. This is a very HOT story.

My weekend

10/12/2008 07:15:00 AM / Posted by Kris / comments (8)

My weekend was very fun until this morning. My sister turned 18 this weekend and for her b-day she wanted to go to Medieval Times which is a dinner theater like thing. She went before for her 10th b-day and wanted to go again. They serve dinner that you have to eat medieval style (i.e. with your fingers) and they have a show where they joust and sword fight and stuff. It was her, two friends and her boyfriend and me, Hubby and our oldest. We all had a blast. Though I think Hubby and I had more fun watching our oldest watch the show than us watching the show. Then yesterday we had a big family pic done (my parents, his parents, my sis and us) then went out to eat. That was a lot of fun too.
Now here comes the bad part. Oldest came in my room this morning about 5:30 and said she had to go to the bathroom. I took her in and then she proceeded to throw up. Yuck. So I clean her up and the area up then sent her back to bed with a bucket next to her bed. It has been wash, rinse and repeat every 15 minutes since then. Poor thing. Now though from cleaning all this up, I am starting to feel ill, but I do not know if it is from the thought and smell or that I am also getting what she has. I should probably start making some sub plans for tomorrow, just in case.
I hope everyone's weekend is going as well as mine started out.

Update: Oldest is doing much much better. She stayed home today just in case, but has been doing better since yesterday afternoon. Thank you for your concerns. :)

P.S. guess what i got in the mail yesterday (that I just took out today :P )

An ARC of Instant Attraction by Jill Shalvis. I am so excited I cannot wait to start it.

Any Given Doomsday and a meme

10/05/2008 04:09:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (6)

Ames tagged me with a meme. This is a fun and easy one.

Here are the rules:
Grab the nearest book. Open the book to page 56. Find the fifth sentence. Post the text of the next two to five sentences in your journal/blog along with these instructions.

Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the closest. Tag five other people to do the same.

Here was the closest book to me:
His face was bleak and I had to resist the urge to reach out to him once more. As he'd said, when we touched, bad things happened. I did not want to see again that flash of fang ; I didn't want to catch a whiff of blood.

I tag whoever else wants to participate who has not been tagged yet.
And the book happened to be this one:

Any Given Doomsday (The Phoenix Chronicles Book 1) by Lori Handeland

Elizabeth Phoenix once used her unique skills as a psychic to help in the Milwaukee Police Department’s fight against injustice. But when Liz’s foster mother is found viciously murdered—and Liz is discovered unconscious at the scene—her only memory of the crime comes in the form of terrifying dreams...of creatures more horrific than anything Liz has seen in real life. What do these visions mean? And what in the world do they have to do with her former lover, Jimmy Sanducci?

While the police question Jimmy in the murder, Jimmy opens Liz’s eyes to a supernatural war that has raged since the dawn of time in which innocent people are hunted by malevolent beings disguised as humans. Only a chosen few have the ability to fight their evil, and Jimmy believes Liz is among them. Now, with her senses heightened, new feelings are rising within Liz—ones that re-ignite her dangerous attraction to Jimmy. But Jimmy has a secret that will rock Liz to her core…and put the survival of the human race in peril.

I got this as an ARC from LibraryThing. I am not positive how I feel about it. I really liked most of it. The characters were interesting and I was enjoying the storyline. Until I got to a part toward the end that had a forced seduction scene and I was not too thrilled about that. I have never been crazy about those, too close to rape. He was not in his right mind but still too close for me. This book is definitely not for everyone. It is the beginning of a series and there is no definite HEA yet. She sleeps with someone other than the hero which I know a lot of people who do not like that. Of course, I am not positive who her hero is going to be. I am curious where she is going to go with the storyline.
Besides the sex I was very interested in the storyline. I know that is so backwards for me, go figure. Because of this I am not too sure how to grade this one.

Davin's Quest

10/02/2008 08:13:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (4)

Well, work is kicking my butt at the moment. They cut my counter part at school and have doubled up my classes in K-3rd. So I have two classes at the same time and they have given me a aide to help. It is not going too badly, but I am so worn out. Kindergarten was scaring me, but I think that we have worked out a workable solution. I have the classes two at a time, but it is staggered because of the previous schedule. So one day I have classes A and B and the next day I have classes B and C, and the next, C and D etc. So that make lessons not ideal because I cannot build on the lessons they way I wish. They say that it is probably only for the semester then they can try to make it better in January. By then I will be used to it, I hope, and it will not matter. It is just difficult adjusting, it is a new challenge. Okay i am done with my whining.

The kids are all doing well. The baby is growing like a weed. She is up to 14 lbs. The middle one is amazing her daycare teacher with her energy and ability to lie. The oldest is doing very well in school and getting ready for soccer to start. They all impress me and stress me everyday, it is great. :) I hope that everyone is doing well.

Davin's QuestDavin's Quest (Resonance Mates Book 2) by Bianca D'Arc

Which man will Callie choose, the alien or the warrior? Or can she have both?

For each Alvian, there is one perfect match—a Resonance Mate whose soul blends in perfect harmony. Unlike the rest of his race, Davin has emotions and suffers for it. Without a mate, he is doomed to go mad. Searching for answers and understanding, he seeks out Callie O’Hara, a human woman with strong empathic gifts. Could this fragile human be his Resonance Mate?

Rick St. John is a tough-as-nails survivor of the Alvian occupation of Earth. He doesn’t believe in much, but when he sees Callie for the first time, he starts to believe in love at first sight.

The Governing Council is gunning for Davin, the upstart who dares to defy them. And they’ll kill anyone who gets in their way. Davin and Rick must come to terms with their feelings for Callie in order to keep her safe, while she has to find a way to save them both... with her love.

Good addition to the series. The storyline seemed to go by quickly and was very entertaining. I think i still liked the first book (Hara's Legacy, which I am now realizing that i never wrote about) more, but this one was good too. I cannot wait for Harry's story.

Bound by Shadow and Bound by Flame

9/29/2008 04:47:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (3)

Bound by Shadow (The Dark Crescent Sisterhood)Bound by Shadow (Dark Crescent Sisterhood Book 1) by Anna Windsor
Falling for a demon can be hazardous to your heart. Riana Dumain is a fully trained Sybil, a warrior priestess battling evil whose practical magic keeps her grounded in earthly science–and desires. She knows that gorgeous NYPD detective Creed Lowell is dangerous, and possibly a foot soldier of the evil Legion cult, using his badge and drop-dead looks to consolidate demonic power. Creed’s low-profile Occult Crimes Unit pulls Riana and her two sister Sybils into the case of a politician’s son, murdered in a ritualistic sacrifice. Soon, Riana’s instincts prove true. Creed, the hottest half-human she’s ever known, a demon in bed and out, is guarding a trapdoor to hell. And unless Riana can find a way to tame her mystery man’s treacherous inner self (and her heart), all of Manhattan may be enveloped by darkness.

This book had the disadvantage of being the first in a series, it has to set up the world and setting for the series. It did a decent job, but it makes the storyline drag occasionally. Very interesting world and story. I liked the characters and that the hero had a questionable credibility about whose side he was on. Good book, I was looking forward to the next installment (see below :)

Bound by Flame by Anna Windsor
When Cynda gets hot and bothered, things start to sizzle. Gorgeous flame-haired Cynda Flynn knows fire–its heat, its power, its magic. A fully trained Sybil warrior priestess, Cynda’s weapon is flame. But she’s unprepared for the passion ignited by Nick Lowell, an undercover cop in the NYPD’s Occult Crime Unit. He’s half human, half demon, and hotter than hell, with fathomless black eyes that ignite something buried deep inside Cynda, making her melt in all the right places. Luckily, Nick has found a way to control his dark side, but he’s done it old-school–through steel-willed self-control. And after five years working secretly within the deadly Legion cult, he’s unbreakable. Or he was, until Cynda came along. Now it’s personal–and even his big bad love may not be enough to halt a terrible new evil snuffing out fire Sybils like Cynda. It’s nasty. And if it can’t be stopped, they’re all going to fry.

Great story. I was kind of skeptical when we captured the bad guy and still had half a book to go, but was not disappointed. The story kept me interested and reading. Very good.

Die For Me and Scream for Me

Die for Me by Karen Rose
My review for Die For Me is up at Book Binge here.

Scream for Me by Karen Rose
Special Agent Daniel Vartanian has sworn to find the perpetrator of multiple killings that mimic a 13-year-old murder linked to a collection of photographs that belonged to his brother, Simon, the ruthless serial killer who met his demise in DIE FOR ME. Daniel is certain that someone even more depraved than his brother committed these crimes, and he's determined to bring the current murderer to justice and solve the mysterious crime from years ago.

With only a handful of images as a lead, Daniel's search will lead him back through the dark past of his own family, and into the realm of a mind more sinister than he could ever imagine. But his quest will also draw him to Alex Fallon, a beautiful nurse whose troubled past reflects his own. As Daniel becomes attached to Alex, he discovers that she is also the object of the obsessed murderer. Soon, he will not only be racing to discover the identity of this macabre criminal, but also to save the life of the woman he has begun to love.

Great book!! I think I liked this one better than Die for Me. Great suspense and very strong characters. Alex comes to town to find her missing stepsister and take care of her niece. The poor niece is traumatized and will not speak and no one believes that Bailey is missing. Alex and Daniel have to pool their resources to uncover the deep conspiracies going on in this little town.

Hostage to Pleasure and Running Wild

9/16/2008 10:32:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (4)

Hostage to Pleasure (Psy-Changeling Book 5) by Nalini Singh
Separated from her son and forced to create a neural implant that will mean the effective enslavement of her psychically gifted race, Ashaya Aleine is the perfect Psy--cool, calm, emotionless...at least on the surface. Inside, she's fighting a desperate battle to save her son and escape the vicious cold of the PsyNet. Yet when escape comes, it leads not to safety, but to the lethal danger of a sniper's embrace.

DarkRiver sniper Dorian Christensen lost his sister to a Psy killer. Though he lacks the changeling ability to shift into animal form, his leopard lives within. And that leopard's rage at the brutal loss is a clawing darkness that hungers for vengeance. Falling for a Psy has never been on Dorian's agenda. But charged with protecting Ashaya and her son, he discovers that passion has a way of changing the rules...

Awesome book. The storyline was well thought out. The characters were believable and perfect for the book. I ave always admired Dorian for going so far without being able to shift. It was inevitable that he end up mated to a Psy, his greatest enemy in his mind. Ashaya was such a strong character, she was great to watch as she stayed loyal to her family and tried to keep everything safe. I loved this book. If you have not read this series you are totally missing out run out and buy Slave to Sensation and start reading.

Running Wild by Sarah McCarty
Donovan must bring the Pack Alpha home and nothing more. But when he catches the sexy scent of Lisa Delaney, he’s hers, body and soul—and ready to risk both on an erotic desire that will shatter all boundaries.
Kelon intends to return to his pack after helping Donovan, but he never counted on the voluptuous distraction of Robin Delaney. She’s the one woman who can make him contemplate a choice no werewolf should have to make.

Wyatt can’t afford to be attracted to the practical, completely human Heather Delaney. But she isn’t a woman a man ignores—no matter what the cost.

I read this book months ago and just realized that I never posted about it. This book is three connected short stories. Or maybe you could say that it is one story but the point of view changes twice and you see three couples getting together one after the other. Three Packmates falling for three sisters. Very HOT. If you like short shifter stories then you will love this one. Especially if you like strong heroines. The opening scene is Lisa Delany kicking the crap out of a jerk using a pool stick because he hurt her sister.

Well, sorry that i have not been blogging much . I have been around but I have gotten addicted to an online manga site. I have been reading them constantly when I am on the computer. I totally blame Nath :P She got me hooked. I am still hanging around just not posting much. I will try to do better :)

Book Binge has an interview posted with one of my favorite authors, Jill Shalvis. Her blog is one of the ones that i visit everyday. If you have not read her you are missing out on some great stuff. Her books are sexy and very funny. I have loved every book that i have read by her. Go check it out.

School is going very well. My kids this year are so much nicer and easier than the ones last year (so far anyway). The baby is doing great. She just had a doctor appt and got her first set of shots (five of them, ugh). She did great and is now up to 12 lbs and 7 oz. I hate having to put her in daycare though. I was lucky enough to get to stay home with the other ones when they were this age, it is hard. Oh well, maybe we will win the lottery and I will get to stay home again. (of course I guess to be able to win I would have to play, I knew there was a problem with that scenerio :)

Just One of the Guys by Kristin Higgins
Being one of the guys isn't all it's cracked up to be… So when journalist Chastity O'Neill returns to her hometown, she decides it's time to start working on some of those feminine wiles. Two tiny problems: #1—she's five feet eleven inches of rock-solid girl power, and #2—she's cursed with four alpha male older brothers. While doing a story on local heroes, she meets a hunky doctor and things start to look up. Now there's only one problem: Trevor Meade, her first love and the one man she's never quite gotten over—although he seems to have gotten over her just fine. Yet the more time she spends with Dr. Perfect, the better Trevor looks. But even with the in-your-face competition, the irresistible Trevor just can't seem to see Chastity as anything more than just one of the guys.…

I picked this one up from the library because Nath had read it and her review sounded good. It was a cute read. I loved how the heroine was unique. You do not find too many heroines that are 6 ft with broad shoulders and a love of sports. So that was a very nice change. I liked how she did not change herself for someone, she kept herself real. And i love friends to lovers stories. It took Trevor a little long to get a clue and I wanted to smack him a few times, but, of course, it worked out in the end :)

Twisted Creek and Letters to a Secret Lover

9/02/2008 09:16:00 AM / Posted by Kris / comments (4)

Twisted CreekTwisted Creek by Jodi Thomas
Bad luck has been biting at Allie Daniel's heels all her life, so when she inherits a cafe in a small Texas lake community she's sure there's a catch. But Allie decides to move and brings her grandmother along, since the cafe gives Nana a chance to do what she loves best-cook. As Allie settles in, she soon discovers that she's not alone anymore-and that sometimes, the only cure for bad luck is gaining the courage to love.

Nath loved this book and recommended it to me, thanks nath. :) This was very cute. It was different. I am used to the small town thing but this seemed more like a community around a lake and that was it, in my head they were pretty isolated from everyone else. I really enjoyed this book. It had fun characters, good romance and some action as well. Her grandmother was awesome, I love her. Highly recommend this one.

Letters to a Secret Lover (Avon Romance)
Letters to a Secret Lover by Toni Blake

The last thing she needs right now is a man . . . Lindsey Brooks had it all—an awesome job doling out advice to the lovelorn, a fabulous high-rise apartment, and a to-die-for fiancé. But then she got dumped—wearing nothing but a "Kiss the Cook" apron—and desperate to escape, she retreats to a tiny Montana town to reclaim a family treasure. She never dreamed anyone would try to stop her—or that he'd be sexy as sin.

Too bad she finds such a hot one . . . Rob Colter isn't into relationships—but Lindsey sees Rob as the perfect guy to help her "get back on the horse." The sex horse, that is. Unfortunately, he comes complete with a mysterious past, which gets even more mysterious when she finds his passionate letters to another woman—whose name happens to be tattooed on his chest.

And too bad he has so many secrets . . . Now Rob's dangerous past is about to catch up with them both. And if that's not horrible enough, Lindsey is falling for him—hard. For a girl who usually has all the answers, Lindsey is up to her neck in trouble.

The cover made me think that this was a historical western, but it is not, it is a contemporary. It was pretty good. It made me cry if that is any indication. Of course, I read this right after I had the baby when I cried at everything. It was interesting storyline. The secret letter thing totally surprised me. If you have some free time and this book I would recommend it.

The Courage to Love (Brothers in Arms, Book 1)The Courage to Love (Brothers in Arms Book 1) by Samantha Kane
Kate Collier is still recovering from a vicious rape and trying to make a success of her dress shop when Jason Randal and Anthony Richards return to London from the Continent, intent on winning her. She's known them for years, ever since they served with her late husband in the Peninsula against Napoleon. She'd been in love with them for almost that long. To discover they feel the same is a shock, but Kate isn't ready to turn her life back over to a man, or men.
Jason and Tony prove hard to resist, however, especially when their close friendship blossoms into desire for each other as they make Kate's body burn with passion. The combination of their insatiable desire for her and their journey into a sexual relationship with one another is irresistible to Kate.
A nightmare from her past tries to keep them apart, but the three long for a life together in spite of society's censure, and they will not be denied.

Loved this book. It was full of emotion (but not cheesy) and had a great storyline. I cannot wait to read the next ones.

Fortune's KissFortune's Kiss by Lisa Manuel
Practical, country-bred Moira Hughes must fight for the family fortune she believes her stepfather's heir has unlawfully withheld from her. Graham Foster, treasure hunter and Egyptian antiquities expert, returns to London to claim his barony only to find himself accused of foul play by Moira and her family. Finally coming to a wary truce, Graham agrees to help Moira find her lost fortune, and together they follow a trail of fraud, deceit, and murder that leads them through the streets of London—and into each other's arms.

Pretty good book. I thought it was a good book to pass the time. Interesting storyline.

Count to Ten

Well Fay is raining on us and won't quit. She needs to move herself out of here. Luckily, I am not flooded where I am but there are many others that are. Schools were closed on Tuesday and the day was pretty until the evening. My neighbor was out mowing his lawn that morning. Today on the other hand, is gross. It has not stopped raining or blowing wind gusts everywhere all day. Today would have been the day to cancel school. The poor kids at school were so water logged and cold. Tomorrow is supposed to be wet as well. Ugh.

Count to Ten
Count to Ten by Karen Rose

CLOSE YOUR EYES.

In all his years in the Chicago Fire Department, Lieutenant Reed Solliday ahs never experienced anything like this recent outbreak of house fires – devastating, vicious and in one case, homicidal. He has another problem – his new partner, Detective Mia Mitchell. She’s brash, bossy, and taking the case in a direction he never imagined.

HOLD YOUR BREATH.

Mia’s instincts tell her the arsonist is making this personal. And as the infernos become more deadly, one look at the victims’ tortured faces convinces her and Reed that they must work closer to catch the killer. With each new blaze, the villain ups the ante, setting firetraps for the people Reed and Mia love. The truth is almost too hot to handle: This monster’s desire for death and destruction is unquenchable … and for Mia he’s started the countdown to an early grave.

Very good book. I heard about this from a few different readers (nath sticks out for one), thank you for the suggestion. I loved this book all the way through. The suspense was good, the parts narrated by the villain were not snooze-worthy (i.e. the lessers of JR Ward) and the romance was very nice.

Bound by the Past and stuff

8/18/2008 04:08:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (3)

Well, the first day of school went well for me, but not so well for my oldest. Hubby got in the van to take her to her first day of 1st grade and the van would not start, the battery was dead. As he is discovering this the bus that picks up by our house passes by. So she spent her first day at home. Meanwhile we have TS/Hurricane Fay coming so there is no school tomorrow and probably not the next day as well. So she will not start school until Thursday, she is so disappointed.

Bound by the PastBound by the Past (Ties that Bind Book 2) by MacKenzie McKade

Years of neglect and disappointments have molded Jessica Evans into a strong, independent woman, determined to live life by her rules. The only place she’s willing to relinquish control is in the bedroom. Even then, it’s only on her terms.

A safety net of multiple partners keeps anyone from getting too close. That is, until one sexy cowboy throws a snag in that net, big time. Not only does Wade Peterson make her body burn, he’s crossed the line. The damn man wants to marry her.

For Wade, sharing her with another man is almost more than he can bear. But if he pushes too hard, he could lose her for good—something he refuses to allow to happen. Jessie’s rejection isn’t the end of it, not by a long shot. He’s back, and he’s hell-bent on seducing her right back into his wicked arms.

Then her past comes back to drop a bomb in her lap, and Wade sees a part of her he didn’t know existed—and another obstacle that could drive her to push away her only chance for love.

I won this book this week from Fatin at Novel Thoughts. I originally thought it was a menage book, but it is not. It has menage scenes, but then it is just the H and h. I enjoyed this book. It just came out this week from Samhain. The first half of the book I was so frustrated for Wade, and irritated with Jessie for not talking to him, but I knew there was a reason for it and it worked out in the end (of course). There were nice love scenes and a good storyline. Very good book altogether.

As of 9:30 tonight, I have air!!!! Yay!!

Into the Fire (Troubleshooters, Book 13)Into the Fire (Troubleshooters Book 13) by Suzanne Brockmann
Vinh Murphy–ex-Marine and onetime operative for the elite security firm Troubleshooters Incorporated–has been MIA ever since his wife, Angelina, was caught in a crossfire and killed during what should have been a routine bodyguard assignment. Overcome with grief, Murphy blames the neo-Nazi group known as the Freedom Network for her death. Now, years later, Freedom Network leader Tim Ebersole has been murdered–and the FBI suspects Murphy may have pulled the trigger. To prevent further bloodshed, Murphy’s friends at Troubleshooters scramble to find him and convince him to surrender peacefully.
Murphy himself can’t be sure what he did or didn’t do during the years he spent mourning and lost in an alcohol-induced fog. He does know he occasionally sought solace from Hannah Whitfield, a former police officer and the very friend who’d introduced him to his beloved late wife.
But Hannah, still grappling with the deafness that resulted from an injury sustained while on duty, was fighting her own battles. For years Hannah had feelings for Murphy, and one painful night their suffering brought them together in a way neither expected–and both regretted.
Murphy is ready to rejoin the living. As always, he finds himself knocking on Hannah’s door, and as always, his longtime friend welcomes him back into her home. Yet even as Murphy slowly rebuilds his splintered life, he continues to fight his growing feelings for Hannah.
Then he learns of Ebersole’s murder and comes to believe that the Freedom Network has targeted him–and Hannah–to avenge their leader’s death to violence. Now Murphy must face the terrifying prospect of losing another woman he loves.
As the Troubleshooters desperately search for him, Murphy races toward a deadly confrontation with the Freedom Network and ultimate choice: surrender his life in hopes that Hannah will be spared, or risk everything to salvage whatever future they may have together.

Loved this book. It was a great addition to the series. I am glad to get Vinh's story, I felt so bad for him when Angelina died. It took me a while to realize how long it had been in the timeline since that happened. As for the secondary story, I had a little issue with the age difference between Izzy and Eden Gillman. But I got over it, I liked to watch their relationship and the misunderstandings before they figured out their feelings. Dave Malkoff blossomed in this one as well.
If you have not read these books they are great. They do not necessarily have to be read in order but it adds a lot if you do read them in order.

Death Angel: A Novel
Death Angel by Linda Howard
A striking beauty with a taste for diamonds and dangerous men, Drea Rousseau is more than content to be arm candy for Rafael Salinas, a notorious crime lord who deals with betrayal through quick and treacherous means: a bullet to the back of the head, a blade across the neck, an incendiary device beneath a car. Eager to break with Rafael, Drea makes a fateful decision and a desperate move, stealing a mountain of cash from the malicious killer. After all, an escape needs to be financed.
Though Drea runs, Salinas knows she can’t hide–and he dispatches a cold-blooded assassin in hot pursuit, resulting in a tragic turn of events. Or does it?
Left for dead, Drea miraculously returns to the realm of the living a changed woman. She’s no longer shallow and selfish, no longer steals or cheats or sells herself short. Both humbled and thrilled with this unexpected second chance, Drea embraces her new life. But in order to feel safe and sound–and stop nervously looking over her shoulder–she will need to take down those who marked her for death.
Joining forces with the FBI, supplying vital inside information that only she can provide, Drea finds herself working with the most dangerous man she’s ever known. Yet the closer they get to danger, the more intense their feelings for each other become, and the more Drea realizes that the cost of her new life may be her life itself–as well as her heart.

Good story. I was not sure if I would like this one, but I heard good things about it and grabbed it. I enjoyed it. There were some slight paranormal elements in it halfway through and that is always a plus for me. Always interesting to see a "bad" guy as a hero. Reformed men are always great heroes.

Cry Wolf and Strength of the Pack

8/11/2008 09:51:00 AM / Posted by Kris / comments (6)

Well, so far I still have no air. :( Luckily it has rained most days which makes it cooler in the evenings. I have called the air people and twice now, they have said that they will find out how long and call me back. Have they called back? No. I also have left repeated messages on their answering machine, have they called me back, No. It is irritating.
I go back to school tomorrow for pre-planning. Another school year starting. Don't know if i am ready for it.
I hope everyone is doing well out there.

Update: The air people finally called back!! They are coming out Tuesday morning. YAY!!!!!

Cry Wolf (Alpha and Omega, Book 1)
Cry Wolf (Alpha and Omega Book 1) by Patricia Briggs
Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack…and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she’d learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country will recognize her value as a pack member—and as his mate.

Technically I guess this is book one, so I guess that would make the first story a prequel. But if you have not read the first story in the anthology On the Prowl, you should read that one first. This series takes place in the same world as her Mercy Thompson books, this is kind of a spin off of that series. Some of the characters cross over but Ms Briggs says that most likely Anna and Mercy will never meet. If you are big on chronology (which I am) this book takes place between Moon Called and Blood Bound.
I loved this book. I thought it had a great storyline, great characters and great romance. If you have not read this or the Mercy books, you need to get your bookstore quickly. :)

The Strength of the Pack (Strength)
Strength of the Pack (Strength Book 1) by Jorrie Spencer
Since his sister disappeared, Seth has lived in solitude. Despite his deep need to be part of a pack, he sets himself apart from werewolf and human alike. When he hooks up with his teenage crush, loneliness and physical desire overcome his distrust. Jamie welcomes his attentions, and Seth rationalizes they can have one night together before they part. However, Seth and Jamie's bond runs deeper than he knows. He cannot return to the shadows. Yet exposure may bring danger to them all.

I have had this one for a while and started it once, but got side tracked. So I picked it up again yesterday. It was pretty good. I am not sure exactly what it was but there was something that did not click for me. I liked the storyline, I liked the characters, maybe it was just that I liked it but did not love it. I am not sure.

Turbulant Sea and my horrible life :)

8/06/2008 06:36:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (5)

Well, still no air. We have a bunch of fans we are using and the insurance company gave us $150 toward a portable air unit. So we bought a window unit but unfortunately it is not working well because of the size of our room, we have vaulted ceilings and it is so hard to cool. It is currently 89 degrees in my living room and that is with the air and fans running. We went to the mall today to get out of the house and into air conditioning. Hopefully they will show up tomorrow to replace the unit.
On a similar note I have decided that the fates are against me this week. On Monday, my toilet in my bedroom overflowed unbeknownst to me and flooded my bathroom and the carpet that is right outside the bathroom. Now since I have no air to help dry it out and fans only do so much in this humidity it smells like mildew in my bedroom.
And my week gets better (not).
Yesterday, I went to Home Depot to get the window unit and when I came out, the lady in the car parked in front of me informed me that a shopping cart had hit my car and showed me a really deep scratch in the front corner, then veered off and hit her car and broke her headlight cover. So then we spent the next hour (with three kids in the car, luckily they had toys) talking to insurance and the manager. This is not my week and it is only Wednesday.

Turbulent Sea (Drake Sisters, Book 6)Turbulent Sea (Drake Sisters Book 6) by Christine Feehan

The star: Joley Drake was born with a legacy of unexpected magical gifts, but it was the gift of singing that made her an overnight sensation—a rock and roll goddess trapped by fame, fortune, and ambition. Heated by the flush of success, Joley could have any man she wanted. But there’s only man who can give her what she really needs.

The bodyguard: Ilya Prakenskii, cool, inscrutable, dangerously sexy, and working in the shadow of his infamous reputation—that of a secret Russian hit man on the payroll of a notorious mobster. He’s the last man Joley should get close to, yet when her life is threatened on tour she has nowhere left to turn. But in the seductive safe keep of Ilya’s embrace, is Joley really as secure as she imagines?

Okay, the second to last book in the series. Very good! I have given up on the Dark books, but I am loving this series. I enjoyed this book all the way through. I loved Joley and Ilya, they were great characters as were all the abnd members. There was some action and good romance. Nice balance of everything for me. You got to see all the sisters and their hubbys in this one except Elle. She was MIA the whole book, so I have no idea where the next story will start.

If you have read the story, I was so sad for Brian. I hope we hear more about the band members in the next book (just snippets of how they are doing and stuff).
