Hotter After Midnight

Happy Memorial Day!
Sorry I have not said much lately. I have been reading a little, but just not posting (not a lot to say I guess). Not in the mood and busy with baby and end of the year school stuff.
I had my 3 hr sugar test this past week and will find out the results this week. Hopefully they will be good. My family and friends from church threw me a surprise baby shower on Saturday. It was a lot of fun. I had no absolutely no clue. My friend Anna called me and asked if I could give her a ride to her mom's so she could keep an eye on her grandmother and I said sure. I get there and she asks me to come help her carry some stuff (while I am yelling at my oldest to get back in her seat and stay there) so I get out and follow her in. Then I get a huge surprise seeing my family there and friends. It was really nice. So since then I have been in total baby mode. I have been washing new clothes and getting the room more organized with new stuff. (lots of fun) We also got new bookshelves for the living room and painted two of the four walls of the living room. I will post some pics when it looks a little nicer. I have also been asked to and will soon, post a belly pic. I have to get hubby to take one first.
I hope that everyone has been doing well. I have been reading your blogs but just lurking lately. I have been stuck in a reading rut. Nothing sounds interesting. Any suggestions?

Hotter After MidnightHotter After Midnight by Cynthia Eden
Dr. Emily Drake's patients tend to be a little unusual. Instead of the typical therapist's caseload of midlife crises and mother fixations, Emily treats vampires with blood phobias and sex-demons looking for meaningful relationships. But her gift for recognizing and healing the Other--those creatures of the night that most humans don't even know exist--requires a few house rules. First: Never trust a shifter. Especially not one like Detective Colin Gyth whose gold-flecked eyes and predatory air make Emily realize how much she's been longing to lose control... Colin can't believe the doctor he's been assigned to work with on the Night Butcher murder investigation is the one person who could expose his true identity as a wolf shifter. Smart, sexy, and stubborn as hell, Emily brings out the alpha male in Colin, unleashing a wild, heady desire that takes them both over the edge. But in the shadows, the Night Butcher waits...eager to spill Emily's blood and taste her terror. And he'll use any means to destroy her, including the one person she has grown to trust.

I really enjoyed this book. It was nice and HOT. I liked the world that she has created. I hope to see more from it.

Fast and Loose

Sorry I have been MIA lately it is busy here at the end of the school year. I have been reading and around Blogland but not posting much. I have a slew of books to post about including Baddest of Bad Boys anthology, Shadow Magic by Cheyenne McCray, Taking the Heat by Kathryn Shay, Hotter After Midnight by Cynthia Eden and a few others that I read last month but never posted about. I am so behind.

Fast & Loose (Berkley Sensation)Fast and Loose by Elizabeth Beverly
Hotshot Thoroughbred trainer Cole Early needs a place to stay during the Kentucky Derby. His only option is a snug little bungalow being rented out by local glass artist Lulu Flannery. And though her house indulges all of Cole's five senses, he'll have to tame his rowdy charm to coax some passion out of Lulu.

This was a cute book. It is not often that I read a contemporary book that takes place in the horse racing world. This was fun.
I enjoyed reading it but I wish she had gone into a little more with her releasing her inner self. She talked about how she was afraid to let go and loosen up because she felt that she would come apart from everything that was bottled up inside her. She did loosen up some before the end but I guess I wanted it to be more.
I loved her journal and the angel and devil on Cole shoulder when he was conflicted, they were funny. It is right up there with watching someone argue with themself.
Nice light read.

Happy Mother's Day!!

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Don't you just have days like these (I had one yesterday) :P

I got these in an email and had to share. (the second one is soooo me and my hubby)

Marriage is a relationship in which one person is always right, and the other is a husband.

**************************************************
A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband.

Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen.

'Careful,' he said, 'CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my GOD!
You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my GOD! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful . CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!'

The wife stared at him. 'What in the world is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?'

The husband calmly replied, 'I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving.'

She's On Top

FYI - my family friend that I told you about that had cancer, passed away last night. She had all of her children with her at the time. One good thing about this is that she got a chance to say good bye and everyone else got a chance to say good bye to her.

She's On Top (The Awesome Foursome)
She's On Top (Awesome Foursome Book/story 4) by Susan Lyons
Music is Rina’s passion and she can never forget the sensual rhapsody she experienced in the arms of her first lover. Ten years later, her sexy teenage boyfriend has become an incredibly hot Italian playboy whose masterful fingers still know how to create the most intimate melody of pleasure. And now Rina wants a full encore of passionate sex culminating in a glorious, unforgettable climax...

Susan Lyons says this about the series in her Amazon Blog: Champagne Rules, the first book (where sensible Suzanne meets Jaxon and her sexy side comes out!), has won several writing awards: the Booksellers Best Award for single title contemporary, the Booksellers Best Award for first book, the Golden Quill for erotic romance, and the Aspen Gold for erotic romance. Book 2, Hot in Here, matches Jenny up with a hot firefighter. Book 3, Touch Me, introduces workaholic Ann to a Greek God masseur who’s into tantric sex. And Book 4, She’s on Top - my brand new release - has Rina tracking down her magic-fingered piano man.

This was a really fun book. I loved the fact that they were both in the music world. And on different sides of it. She is a classical clarinetist and he is a music video director and former pianist. It was very sweet. They are reunited lovers. They spent a summer together when they were 17 at a music camp and became best friends then lovers. They decided that long distance relationships never work and broke things off when the summer ended. But never really got over each other. I really enjoyed watching them go through the trials of actually trying to have a relationship and all the issues that it brings. That is one thing that I liked about this and that I think I will like about the other books in the series, is that they have real life issues that are not always completely solved in one 300 page book. The characters from the previous book are still struggling with some of their issues in this book. They are together but still working some things out. It made the story more believable. I definitely have to look out for the other books in the series.

The Beast in Him

The Beast in Him (Pride, Book 2)
The Beast in Him (The Pride Book 2) by Shelly Laurenston
Some things are so worth waiting for. Like the moment when Jessica Ward "accidentally" bumps into Bobby Ray Smith and shows him just how far she's come since high school. Back then, Jess's gangly limbs and bruised heart turn to jelly any time Smitty's "all the better to ravish you with" body came near her. So, some things haven't changed. Except now Jess is a success on her own terms. And she can enjoy a romp-or twenty-with a big, bad wolf and walk away. Easy. The sexy, polished CEO who hires Smitty's security firm might be a million miles from the loveable geek he knew, but her kiss, her touch, is every bit as hot as he imagined. Jess was never the kind to ask for help, and she doesn't want it now, not even with someone targeting her Pack. But Smitty's not going to turn tail and run. Not before proving that their sheet-scorching animal lust is only the start of something even wilder…

This is listed as book 2 in the Pride series but her Pack series is in the same world just a different family. Because the H and h of the Pack story, Zach and Sara from Pack Challenge, make an appearance in this one as well. The first story in this series is The Mane Event.
Well, on to the story. I enjoyed this one. This world is interesting because the females are very violent and that is very different from most books that I read. The sex can be kind of violent as well, but it was not demeaning or abusive. They just like rough sex. The story was fun, old friends reunited and the girl pretends to not remember the guy. Funny stuff. Some of the characters though seem a little over the top, aggressive wise and quick to anger wise. The jump into every thing with their fists/claws. I understand that is their world, it just is a lot to swallow sometimes.
The good things: Jessica (Jessie Ann) is a lot of fun. She is a geek and I love geek characters. She enjoys it and does not want to change, but wants to be a strong geek. She does well with that goal. She stand up for herself and can hold her own. I laughed about her fantasy analogies that totally lost Bobby Rae (Smitty), I am a fantasy geek at heart. I loved how he appreciated and enjoyed her quirks and personality and learned from her to have fun and relax.
I enjoyed the book and will continue to read the series. I like the world that Ms Laurenston has created. The next book is Sissy's and I am looking forward to that, mainly because she bugs me and I want to see her get smacked down a little, if it happens. Or something is shown that I can like about her (besides her sticking up for her brother).

Hard news

5/04/2008 10:11:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (7)

This week has been a little tough. I have a family friend that last week went to the doctor because she had a cold that she could not get rid of. Turns out she had pneumonia, stinks but not horrible, right. Well they did some blood work and the reason she had pneumonia and could not get rid of it was that she had leukemia. Because of the pneumonia her doctors said that her chance of survival was slim. They were trying to get her a bed at Moffett Cancer Center and said if they could get her there and start treatment then her chances of survival went up. However, Moffett had no beds available. The family has been calling all week and no beds. So they tried Shands, and same problem, no beds. Now it has been a week and she has been put into Hospice at the hospital. She is in her mid 60s and her children and everyone have said good bye and everyone is now just waiting. She is the sister of my mom's best friend, I used to go to her house growing up for holidays occasionally and this is just sad and frustrating that nothing can be done.

Sorry for the sad post, I just had to vent a little. Thanks.

SEALed with a Kiss`

SEALed with a Kiss: Even a hero needs help sometimes...SEALed with a Kiss by Mary Margret Daughtridge
He can handle just about anything, except this...
Jax Graham is a member of an elite military team, but when it comes to taking care of his four-year-old son after his ex-wife dies, he's completely clueless.
One person can help him, if he'll let her...
Family therapist Pickett Sessoms knows just how to help a rough, tough Navy SEAL deal with a scared and lonely little boy, but not if he insists on going it alone.
When Jax and his young son Tyler get trapped by a hurricane, Pickett takes them in against her better judgment. Jax figures Pickett's high maintenance, just like all the women he knows, and she figures he's not commitment material. But when an outing turns deadly, Pickett discovers what it means to be a SEAL, and Jax discovers that even a hero needs help sometimes...

OMGoodness, this was a great book. I won this over at Book Binge and I am so happy that I did. I would say if you were one of the many that loved the Virgin River trilogy by Robyn Carr then you will adore this one as well. It was not small town like that one but to me it has a similar feel.
The characters were great. I loved their interactions and chemistry. I am not a fan of books with kids at all, but I loved this one. I so grew to love Tyler and want so much for him. This has a great story line and i loved seeing a Alpha hero that was sincere and humble enough to ask for help when he needed it. But he did not lose face in doing so or go to her and then ignore her advise because he knows all. I also liked that they took time to build their relationship before they slept together. It was a nice change from many books I read.
You also got to see all sides of the H and h. You saw him as vulnerable and sexy and dangerous and a hero. You got to see her as compassionate and confused and vulnerable and strong and self conscious.
If you have not read it yet, you must get it.
